Suzanne Donazetti Will Be Catching Moments of Light At Waxlander

Just A Moment
Collectors Don and PJ Bate of Plano, Texas said of our next featured artist, “Suzanne Donazetti is an amazing artist using a medium that’s truly her own, so it’s not being commercialized by lesser artists. We’re not aware of any other artist using her techniques of weaving and painting copper. The results are truly masterful. Her use of color, form, and movement give her pieces such beauty.”
Waxlander Gallery and Sculpture Garden will be featuring Donazetti’s newest collection of work in her one woman show Catching Light from August 2 – 15, with a reception this Friday evening, August 5th, from 5-7pm. We are also proud to announce Catching Light is being held in conjunction with this year’s Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Fair: SOFA WEST: Santa Fe 2011, being held at the Santa Fe Convention Center August 4-7.
Using the refractive lens of weaving, Donazetti’s vision is to communicate the possible harmony and moments of light to be found in the natural environment. “I am currently focusing on moments of light as it moves across a landscape, flower, through the trees, ocean waves, sunsets, etc.,” she explains.

Evening In The Marsh
She is one of very few artists painting on copper and has developed her techniques through many years of experimentation. She has spent over 20 years perfecting her time-consuming and labor-intensive craft.
To be close to her grandchildren, Donazetti currently lives in Columbia, Maryland. However, her heart is in New Mexico, where she learned to silversmith and where she began her experiments in metal coloring. As one can see, her works reflect her memories of the desert, mountains, and canyons here.
For some, Donazetti’s pieces elicit feelings of peace and harmony. She won her first public art commission for the New Mexico Emergency Management Center. The seven large panels—depicting scenes of the New Mexico landscape at different times of the day and night—were designed to alleviate the stress of the emergency personnel working in the building.
Given her unique work and how well it lends to form and function, it is easy to feature her alongside this year’s SOFA West event. Long heralded as the nation’s premier fairs for outstanding contemporary art and design in New York and Chicago, SOFA’s returns to Santa Fe for its 3rd annual western edition. Dealer participation is up this year over last year’s event, and with it being held during the height of Santa Fe’s art market, this year’s event is set to be the most exciting and dynamic yet.
On Friday evening, the 5th, SOFA artists will be our guests here on Canyon Road. And between the reception for Catching Light and SOFA on Canyon Road, this will be one of the best nights to be on Canyon Road this year! For more information, please call us at 984-2202.
