“Color in Motion” – Andrée Hudson’s Palette Becomes Even Bolder

If you thought you knew Andrée Hudson’s work, you may want to look again.

“I’m pushing my color this time even more so than usual. I’m trying to change my palette as I paint each time,” says the Colorado artist. Collectors may notice Hudson’s palette is getting bolder as she strives to infuse her emotional response into her subjects. “This new body of work is exciting me. I’m pushing the energy and color.”

Andrée’s passion for letting the beauty of creation speak for itself through her paintings of living form has always been clear. Each subject, whether child, adult, animal, or landscape, is simply caught living in a moment of time; but it is a time of contemplative silence, an invitation to join that subject in a part of life’s journey.

What let’s her push her palette as she’s done this time is that sees each canvas as a fresh start.

“I can’t remember how I did the last piece so each one is brand new. Every piece has its own feeling.”

Silk and Spurs

In Silk and Spurs, the model, who has appeared in Andrée’s work before, is depicted wearing a greenish-blue Stetson and painted against a cool background to make the figure pop.

It is this juxtaposition of textures and hues that also sets this collection apart for the artist. She explains, “I like the combination of colors. They’re not realistic; they’re what I feel at the time. I’m trying to make the cools and warm equally balanced.”
