Phyllis Kapp – Continuing Her Legacy of Excellence

Phyllis Kapp
Recently, our matriarch, Phyllis Kapp, spent time up north in Abiquiu, enjoying time with family and painting the beautiful landscapes inherent in that part of Northern New Mexico. To our delight, she returned to Santa Fe with four new pieces.
Undoubtedly the Southwest’s most delightful watercolorist, Phyllis continues to capture in spontaneous fashion the landscapes of the state, all the while earning her the adoration and adulation of collectors and fans. She has been quoted as saying, “I love to play while I paint. I love to make people smile.” This spirit pours through her work and elicits a sense of joy in all who experience it.
What a wonderful day we had on Saturday for the Paint Out! We had so much fun having our artists be here with us, with so many wonderful people stopping by to enjoy the festivities, and with the overall atmosphere of celebrating art on The Road. And we couldn’t have asked for better weather!

Here at Waxlander Gallery and Sculpture Garden, we are very excited for this Saturday’s Canyon Road Paint Out. The collection of galleries and artists painting this year is going to make this one extraordinary event. We are pleased to have these artists joining us: Andree Hudson, Marshall Noice, Matthew Higginbotham, Bernard Marks, Jono Tew, Lori Faye Bock, Michael Etheridge, and Paul Cunningham.

The annual Canyon Road Paint Out is Saturday, October 15th. We are very excited for this year’s event as it will be the biggest and best Paint Out yet. The event goes from 10-4 with 36 galleries and 90 artists participating, and a parade at noon. The parade includes three area high school marching bands and Santa Fe’s own Mayor David Coss.
Our matriarch, Phyllis Kapp, was there in the early days and can attest to the hard work it took to make Canyon Road what it is today. Through their hard work, the galleries and artists sparked what would become the center for the Santa Fe art scene and help turn Santa Fe into the second largest art market in the country, behind only New York.
Last year was a great chance for the artists to showcase their work for the patrons who attended. It was also great for them to be able to work side by side with their fellow artists, and even get to poke fun at one another every so often. They enjoy being a part of the Paint Out just as much as we enjoy having them.
