Linda Prokop and her Perserverance in the Bronze art World!

Thursday, March 17th, 2011
"Perserverance" by Linda Prokop

"Perserverance" by Linda Prokop

“My favorite thing about being an artist is that I am absolutely certain that it is what I am supposed to be doing on this planet. I have a grounded, consistent knowledge of this fact, and it is a fundamental source of comfort and strength. My work is derived directly from my life experiences, which I draw from in order to communicate universal human experiences such as hope, perseverance, frustration, joy, and love.”

"Best Friends" by Linda Prokop

"Best Friends" by Linda Prokop

“In the course of my work, as a creative process, I am reminded of my spirituality. I know that when I work, I am not alone or in charge. When my work is going well, I am filled with gratitude for having an abundance of positive creative energy. I consistently return to a place, through my work, that yields a profound sense of peace, contentment, and awe. My favorite medium is bronze sculpture. When I sculpt in clay, I can see, through my mind’s eye, what the finished bronze sculpture will look like. Sculpting engages all of my senses and demands intense concentration. I enjoy this experience immensely. My favorite tools are my hands because the finger impressions on a finished piece reveal the intimacy from the initial moments of creative discovery. I also use a wooden potter’s rib and a small wooden tool similar to the blunt end of a spoon because they make beautiful marks. I would like people who see my work to understand it through their own life experiences.”

“I began sculpting after moving to Colorado from Indiana in 1985. I had just received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Printmaking and was hired as an assistant secretary for a bronze sculptor. Eventually, I found myself in the studio, learning the process of sculpting in bronze. It took several years for me to find my voice as a bronze sculptor, but I owe so much of it to the strength of my knowledge that formed during that time of discovery. My current work attempts to depict ideas or visions that I’ve had, usually in dream form, that I think would tell a good visual story. By doing this work, I am exploring the spiritual connection I value in my life and in my work, and am continually seeking to evolve and expand. In that way, I hope to continue challenging myself as an artist.”

Santa Fe! – Top 14 Destinations says NYTimes.com!

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Santa Fe, N.M.

EASY GETAWAY FROM Los Angeles; Dallas; Denver; Houston; Kansas City, Mo.; Portland, Ore.; Salt Lake City; Seattle; St. Louis; Las Vegas; Phoenix; San Diego; Tucson.

Enjoy a Visit to Canyon Road, walking distance from Inn on the Alameda!

Enjoy a Visit to Canyon Road, walking distance from Inn on the Alameda!

WHAT YOU GET Romantic fireside nooks, art galleries, beautiful landscapes, rejuvenating spas, steamy hot springs.

WHY NOW March is off-season in this high desert city about an hour north of Albuquerque’s airport, which means lower hotel rates and no crowds at the city’s many Native American museums, restaurants, spas and some 250 galleries. With average high temperatures of 55 degrees and lows of 28, March is still a great time for spring skiing in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains just 16 miles from the heart of the city, sipping hot chocolate by a kiva fireplace or getting in touch with your inner artist through a class in painting, pottery or photography. As the thermometer rises in April, the streets become more lively, the farmers’ market moves outdoors, there are concerts, plays and dance performances and Friday-night gallery openings pick up. Take in the city’s adobe-style architecture on a historical walking tour, visit an American Indian pueblo north of Santa Fe or soak in one of the surrounding area’s mineral hot springs.

WHERE TO STAY Inn on the Alameda (innonthealameda.com), located between the Santa Fe Plaza and Canyon Road art galleries, has 71 rooms from $170 a night and offers a three-night Taste the City Different package starting at $792 for two guests, which includes cooking classes, demonstrations and a culinary walking tour for specific dates through April 30. The Southwestern-style Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi (innoftheanasazi.com) offers 58 rooms from $237 a night or $299 a night with the third night free if you book the Experience More deal. La Posada de Santa Fe (laposada.rockresorts.com), with a spa and its own art gallery, has rooms from $185 a night. Book the Savor Santa Fe package and get a $40 breakfast voucher and a $50 credit for a massage or facial.

Kapp discovers her joy of painting with her frequent trips in the Ghost Ranch area. This unusual region near Abiquiu with its dramatic cliffs and colors has been one of Kapp’s primary sources of inspiration for the past 27 years.

Phyllis Kapp’s ecstatic watercolors never fail to elevate and inspire. Collectors and newcomers alike love the spontaneity and sheer joyfulness of her landscapes, paintings that transform the Southwest into a wonderland of myriad colors.
