"Anchored and Drifting" - Presenting Christopher Owen Nelson

Born in Denver, Colorado in 1979, Nelson showed a command of multiple mediums at an early age. His first works to hang in Denver galleries came through self-training as a teenager. His formal education continued at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, but his impact on the art community has sprung from his pioneering explorations of carved and manipulated acrylic and bold use of color. His is the rare work that transcends genres and traditional art world labels. From his contemporary interpretation of familiar landscapes, to his aggressive manipulation of color and abstractions, Nelson’s work is refreshing and new.

Like so many artists before him, Christopher Owen Nelson’s entrance into the mainstream art world came from an innate calling that pushed him to create and experiment. His natural abilities and intense desire to explore the artistic nature within have given rise to an entirely new approach to traditional landscape, figurative and abstract work. He couples his ingenuity with amazing passion and energy to create his one of-a-kind mixed media on acrylic pieces. In addition, music plays an important role in Nelson's creative process. Being a musician, he finds that it fuels his creative energy. Music informs his art and his art informs his music. The direct relationship between the two is vital, and when one flourishes or suffers, so does the other.

In a short period of time, Nelson has established himself as one of the top young talents to emerge from the vibrant Denver art community. As demonstrated through his body of work, his vision continues to move forward, pushing physical, thematic, and emotional boundaries.

Exhibit runs from May 22 to June 4, 2012! Join us on Friday, May 25 for the artist reception from 5pm - 7pm.
