Artist's Statement
The
process I use for creating my art is sometimes serendipitous, following
a certain line of experimentation without clinging to a known hypothesis.
I hammered copper 'onto' forms and 'into' forms and as reliefs, and hammered
the metal hot and cold. The turning point was when I hammered a freely
formed shape into a sand bag and was able to produce a compound curve
and then reverse that compound curve in that same shape.
It was a moment in time when I felt that I had finally found the method
for my art. I then began to expand my skills to develop mere 'biological',
than geometrical forms.
My most recent work is involved with what might be called organic or
biomorphic kinetics. The parabolic gyroscopes I am exploring, create curvilinear
parallelograms that shrink and expand at slower speeds and pulsate with
stronger winds. A core element is the foreshortening of the planes and
lines, as they pass each other in their respective orbits.
The variety of images by variations in speeds and directions and relations
of shapes seem kaleidoscopic and infinite. This work intimates a pulsing,
pumping, living object.
